Midday open thread: Flooding, fires, and favorite dogs

Today’s comic by Ruben Bolling is Hollingsworth Hound charged in college admissions scandal:

Finally:

Emergency crews in Texas on Wednesday finally extinguished a massive fire that had engulfed a petrochemicals facility for four days.

The flooding eases, but

Midwestern farmers have been gambling they could ride out the U.S.-China trade war by storing their corn and soybeans anywhere they could – in bins, plastic tubes, in barns or even outside.

Now, the unthinkable has happened. Record floods have devastated a wide swath of the Farm Belt across Iowa, Nebraska, South Dakota and several other states. Early estimates of lost crops and livestock are approaching $1 billion in Nebraska alone. With more flooding expected, damages are expected to climb much higher for the region.

Good:

A judge blocked oil and gas drilling across almost 500 square miles in Wyoming and said the U.S. government must consider climate change impacts more broadly as it leases huge swaths of public land for energy exploration.

Not a surprise:

On Wednesday, the American Kennel Clubthis link opens in a new tab announced their list of the most popular dog breeds in the United States. Once again, the Labrador retriever came out on top for the 28th consecutive year.

On today’s Kagro in the Morning show: Trump sinks to new depths, now wants credit for McCain’s funeral. Gop stands mute. Horse race polls. McConnell profiled, to no avail. Leftward shift on race issues. Wall: being stolen; paid for with asset forfeiture? Trumpsters never have the paperwork.
