THE FIVE FALL SWEATERS I’LL BE WEARING IN OCTOBER

Sweater season is the best season. Cooler temperatures, upcoming travel, and planned outdoor events are giving me all of the reasons to layer and layer – and it all starts with knits. It’s officially my favorite time of year in fashion! Check out the five fall sweaters that I am most excited about wearing this October below – plus how I plan to style them.

THE CLASSIC CASHMERE CREW SWEATER

Let’s start with the most obvious, a classic cashmere crew. The most elementary of fall basics and the easiest, coziest sweater to build your sweater collection around. This October, I’m excited to lean into fall color trends like lavender, apricot, cobalt, and of course chartreuse (you see more of my chartreuse picks here). I find the easiest way to play into a color trend is through basic items and accessories. So, I’ll start with a classic cashmere crew, pair it with my favorite fall denim (see my fall denim guide here) and go-to outerwear, then add a matching accessory or two. Easy! P.S. don’t be afraid of a classic cashmere cable crew like this or this!

THE POLO SWEATER

I’m loving all of the collared sweater options that I am seeing this season. These styles are such a fun silhouette and can be the underrated team all-star of any fall outfit. I plan on wearing a bolder color sweater polo with a dark fall suit (a great example here), cropped under an oversized jacket (see here), or with a patterned mini skirt and knee highs (as seen on me here). There are simply so many ways to style them! A few more I love here ($35 dollars right now), here, here, and here. If you are looking for an over-the-top editorial collared sweater this new arrival is AMAZING.

THE TURTLENECK SWEATER

Nothing signals fall like a cozy turtleneck. Depending on my look, I’ll vary the weight while wearing these fall sweater staples. If I am opting for something more streamlined and chic, I will pair with a lightweight turtleneck sweater option like this, this, or this – or even this sleeveless version. However, when I am trying to stay ultra cozy, or truly layering, I’ll opt for a chunkier knit turtleneck option like this (under $100) or this (definitely not under $100). If all else fails, a 100% cashmere turtleneck sweater – that doesn’t break the bank – always does the trick!

THE UPGRADED CARDIGAN SWEATER

I always obsess over oversized grandpa cardigans, but this fall, I am eyeing more upgraded styles to this classic silhouette. With that in mind, this longer length ribbed polo cardigan sweater is currently sitting at the top of my list. I can easily layer it over other knits and pair back to denim, or unbutton the bottom buttons and wear it over a voluminous skirt! I’m also enjoying this cropped cardigan as well as the striped collar detailing on this luxe cashmere option. Also, how cute is this shrunken cable cardigan vest? For more cardigans, check out this post on my Zara favorites.

THE DEEP VEE VARSITY SWEATER

I recently styled a varsity sweater here while discussing fall layering tips and it got me thinking of how surprisingly versatile they can be. The deep vee allows you to wear a variety of woven shirts underneath, or to double up with another sweater. This deep vee varsity sweater vest is a total touchdown and would look incredible over a crisp white woven and mini skirt. Just match your accessories to the piping detail on the rib and you are good to go! More varsity vees to love here, here, and here.
