Kelsea Ballerini Interview About Ballerini Album

In our Q&A series Last Call, we get down to the bottom of every last thing with some of our favorite celebs — from the last thing they texted to the last thing they binge-watched. This week, country singer Kelsea Ballerini takes our call.

Kelsea Ballerini continuously serves us relatable country hits that make us want to twirl around in our living rooms with our best friends while also curl up on the couch sobbing with a pint of ice cream — in other words, sometimes it feels like she’s writing songs made just for us. And the same can be said about her third studio album, Kelsea, which debuted in March 2020.

Now, she’s back with Ballerini — a companion album featuring deconstructed, mostly acoustic versions of the songs she recorded while sheltering in place. Ahead of the album release, we chatted with Kelsea about everything from the last book she read to the last thing she did for love!

What was the last day of filming your “Hole in the Bottle” music video like?

We shot the entire video in one day, so I would say it was a chaotic, tipsy, choreographed fashion show. Ha!

Last piece of advice you received that changed your life?

“Care more about less.” It’s a really healthy filter for me. I tend to emotionally overinvest in too much, so it’s really helped me discover what is most important and worth pouring my energy and love into.

Last thing you texted?

“I LOVE A CELEBRATION,” to my best friend that just got engaged.

Last thing you watched on Netflix?

The Office is always on in the house, but the last show I couldn’t stop watching until it was over was Little Fires Everywhere.

Last time you were really excited for something?

Right now typing this! My album Ballerini comes out tomorrow night, and making it has truly been my silver lining of 2020.

Last photo on your camera roll?

I got my dog a new toy; it’s a stuffed Starbucks drink, so it’s of him enjoying his morning coffee. Ha!

Last thing you do before going to bed?

After a 230,784,230 step skin routine? Unfortunately, it’s probably check my phone. I am trying to get better about that.

Last gift you received?

A bottle of Champagne from my friend Joy, who choreographed the “Hole in the Bottle” music video.

Last workout?

My trainer, Erin, kicks my butt three times a week. We do a lot of weight training and Tabata.

Last great fashion purchase?

A vintage silk scarf from The RealReal. Scarves are low-key the multipurpose staple of my summer. I tie my hair up in one or fashion it into a tube top or a sarong to go over a bathing suit or as an accessory hanging off my purse.

Last book you read?

Untamed by Glennon Doyle. Her book tour stop in Nashville was the last event I went to before the pandemic happened, so hearing her story in person made me even more in love with the book.

Last album you listened to?

Tapestry by Carole King. I listened to it driving through the Smokey Mountains, and it was honestly spiritual.

Last time you were star-struck?

When I met Jennifer Aniston backstage at the People’s Choice Awards . . . but that’s a story for another time.

Last thing you did for love?

Folded his socks and undies. 🙂

Last song you sang in the shower?

Probably “Maniac” by Conan Gray. I’m obsessed with the entire Kid Krow album.
