Hollywood actress Gabrielle Union has spoken out about much-needed reform in the entertainment industry — and she thinks that the industry just needs to start again from scratch.
“We have been so committed as an industry — I mean, and every industry is facing the same thing — with going along to get along, trying to figure out how you work around the bad apples as opposed to addressing and making those bad apples accountable and there being real consequences,” she said on The Daily Show With Trevor Noah.
She says she feels that the top tier positions in Hollywood should be more diverse, but like the country, is plagued by systematic racism.
“You have to dismantle the whole thing,” said Union. “You can’t put a Band-Aid on a gunshot.”
Union lost her recent discrimination lawsuit against NBC and the producers of America’s Got Talent — but the fight is much bigger than her. She says Hollywood needs big changes.
