Angelina Jolie Reveals the Backstory on Her Famous Oscar Dress

Monday was family night for Angelina Jolie and her children at the premiere of “Maleficent: Mistress of Evil.”

Angelina stunning in a black Versace dress, and she told “Extra’s” Renee Bargh she simply dressed the theme. “You never know if it’s going to be pink in theme, because it could be…”

Renee commented on her famous 2012 Oscar high-slit dress that went viral, prompting Angelina to note, “I have some panels that are see-through, so we have a secret slit, actually.” She then revealed of the look that was trending for years, “There’s a whole longer story behind that — I had a more complicated dress and I wore the more comfortable dress, which was that one, and I think I was just so comfortable that… I think when you feel comfortable, when you feel yourself — which is very much the theme of the film, and we know this in life — you embrace it. And sometimes, maybe it appears to be a thing, I don’t know.”

Angelina was missing just one hug!

Five of her six children joined her for the premiere. Missing was her eldest son Maddox, who she just dropped off at college in South Korea. “He’s good,” she reported. “But he’s flying to meet me in Japan. So I am two days from my hug.” Renee asked if Mama Jolie is counting down the minutes. “Yes… He’s great. I know he is solid, he’s fine, but I need it.”

Angelina also opened up about recent comments she made about rediscovering herself. “When your kids are a certain age, you go through stages, and you want to make sure they’re safe and you want to make sure they understand certain values… and then you get to a place where you’ve done a lot of that and you feel that they’re good and you also want them to know joy, and it brings back a part of you that is fun and alive and silly.”

She went on to say, “And you have it in waves when they’re little, but when they’re older, they want to know you because they need to get through life and all the hardships in life, and they need how to weather those punches. And so you don’t just teach them how to survive it, you teach them how to thrive and manage it, so that takes a different level of spirit.”

“Maleficent: Mistress of Evil” is in theaters October 18.
