Supporters of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were shocked when earlier this week they announced that they would essentially be quitting the Royal family – but according to reports, it was Oprah Winfrey who advised the young couple to take the leap.
“Oprah was the first person to talk to Harry and Meghan about breaking free and doing their own thing, building on their own brand. She made them realize it was really possible,” a source told Page Six.
The couple announced that they would be “stepping back” as senior members of the Royal Family and spending their time between the UK and the US.
Last April, Oprah spoke out about the UK media’s “unfair” treatment of Markle.
“I think she’s being portrayed unfairly, and I feel that if people really knew her they would know that she is not only everything we perceive of her in being graceful and dynamic in holding that position, but she just has a wonderful, warm, giving, loving heart. I think it’s very unfair,” she told Gayle King at the time.
It is reported that the couple plan to spend their time in the US in Los Angeles.
