Brooklyn and Nicola Peltz Beckham Dress as Romeo and Juliet

Did their hearts love till now? On Oct. 26, Brooklyn and Nicola Peltz Beckham attended Tings Magazine’s Halloween party in West Hollywood dressed as infamous star-crossed lovers Romeo and Juliet, inspired by Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes‘s characters in the 1996 Baz Lurhmann film. While their costumes may have seemed innocent enough, some fans are speculating that there’s a hidden meaning behind their dress-up — namely, a dig at the rumored feud between Nicola and Victoria Beckham.

Whispers about alleged tension between the two women started when Nicola wore a Valentino Haute Couture gown to her wedding with Brooklyn instead of one designed by Victoria, who was about to become her mother-in-law. Although Nicola has spoken on the situation numerous times, telling Variety in August that Victoria actually called Nicola’s mother to explain that her atelier couldn’t make the wedding dress, the rumors continued. “She didn’t say you can’t wear it; I didn’t say I didn’t want to wear it. That’s where it started, and then they ran with that,” Nicola said at the time. Brooklyn also weighed in on the situation, defending his wife and dispelling the rumors. “I’ve learned they’re always going to try to write stuff like that. They’re always going to try and put people down,” he said. “But everyone gets along, which is good.”

Given all the frustration and speculation the young couple has faced in regard to their relationship with the rest of Brooklyn’s family, Romeo and Juliet seems like a fitting choice for them. After all, according to Shakespeare, what really led the two characters to their tragic fate were their feuding families (well, that and a vial of poison). Still, despite the rivalry between their families, they still had their love for each other, which is what makes theirs such an enduring love story to this day. We may never know for certain whether Brooklyn and Nicola chose their costumes intentionally, but at the very least, it seems as though they’re tired of the headlines and officially done with the so-called “feud.”
