B.J. Novak is well on his way to being declared the best godfather ever. (Sorry, Marlon Brando.) On Sunday, Aug. 28, Mindy Kaling posted a series of photos featuring her, Novak, and her 4-year-old daughter, Katherine, at the Griffith Observatory in Los Angeles. According to her post, her “The Office” costar and longtime best friend is the one who took her and her daughter out for an evening of stargazing.
Kaling shared several pictures from the unforgettable night on Instagram. In one, Katherine can be seen looking through a telescope. In another, she appears to be pointing out the stars to her godfather.
“My four year old had the best night of her life at our star party + Saturn spotting at @griffithobservatory!” Kaling captioned the photos. “We kept her up way past her bedtime and it was worth it, even though it was cloudy last night. Thank you @bjnovak for sharing your passion for astronomy and for @orionbearastronomy and @griffithobservatory for a spectacular night!”
Novak is the godfather of both Katherine and her little brother, Spencer. Kaling, who has chosen not to reveal the paternity of her children, recently spoke out about speculation that her best friend is the father of her kids. In an interview with Marie Claire, she said, “It doesn’t bother me. He’s the godparent to both my kids — and they have such a great relationship — and so far [the rumors haven’t] affected my happiness at all, it hasn’t affected my kids or B.J.”
She went on to share why she hasn’t discussed her children’s paternity publicly. “I’m the only parent my kids have,” she told the publication. “I think I err on the side of super cautious so that there’s less things that they can potentially be mad at me about down the line.”
It’s clear from Kaling’s photos that Novak adores her kiddos, and he takes his job as their godfather seriously — especially when it comes to sharing his love for astronomy with little Katherine (and her mom).
