Lori Harvey‘s most important relationship right now is with herself. The model and beauty business owner recently appeared on the Bumble dating app’s Luv2SeeIt video series hosted by Teyana Taylor, where she spoke about her uncompromising approach to dating following her split from Michael B. Jordan in June. “I’m very much in a space right now where I’m not doing anything that’s gonna compromise my peace and happiness,” Harvey said. “Don’t give your power away to anybody.”

Harvey started out the interview sharing what she looks for in potential suitors: she is wary of someone too close to an ex, and values transparency and communication. Harvey admitted she is not a natural communicator, but it’s a skill she’s improved upon following her last relationship. “That’s something I’ve actively been working on. I’ve gotten significantly better,” she said. “That’s the beautiful part of growth. What I wanted at 21, I don’t want at 25 . . . Two different mindsets. I don’t even know her anymore.”

She also expressed gratitude for the support of her friends and family, which includes her gregarious father, Steve Harvey. “I have a great support system around me,” she said. With their help, Harvey has learned the importance of self-reliance and to realize, “You’re good regardless. However this shakes out, you’re gonna be fine.”

Later in the chat, Harvey reflected on how her approach to dating has changed over the years. “I almost got married very young,” she said, likely referring to her engagement to soccer player Memphis Depay before their breakup in 2018, when she was 21. “After that, I felt like I hadn’t really experienced anything, I didn’t really know myself, I didn’t really know what I liked or didn’t like. I just felt like I hadn’t really experienced life.”

The experience made her want to date on her “terms.” She said, “However I want to move, whatever I want to do, I’m going to do it. And if it’s no longer serving me, I’m just going to move on.”

In addition to Depay and Jordan, Harvey previously dated Future, Diddy, Trey Songz, and Lewis Hamilton. Harvey and Jordan went public with their relationship in January 2021, and parted ways earlier this summer after over a year of dating. A source told People that Harvey wanted to focus on her career and “wasn’t ready to commit.”

Harvey reiterated similar relationship advice in her POPSUGAR cover story. “Always communicate. Overcommunicate, even, so you are always on the same page,” she said. “Also, be friends first. You know how sometimes you fight with your siblings and, of course, you love them, but you’re like, ‘I don’t even like you right now’? It’s important to always be friends whether you like the person.”

In sharing future aspirations, Harvey said, “In five years, hopefully, I will have many more businesses that have successfully launched.” She added, “I’m a real force in the business space, the beauty space, the fashion space. Hopefully, I have a baby; hopefully, I’m married.”
