Frilly, floral frocks. Punchy-hued itty bitty bikinis you’d never miss out at sea. Bold printed shirts that scream summer’s here. These may be the MVPs of summer dressing but they are also a minimalist’s nightmare come true. If you’re one for understated clothing, you might find yourself on board the struggle bus when you’re packing for a tropical vacay or a trip to the beach. Chances are, you don’t have much in your wardrobe that fits the brief for summer wear either.

Now, take three deep breaths and exhale all preconceived expectations of a vacation wardrobe. There’s more to it than the eclectic prints and colour blocking that’s currently all over the ‘gram. Forget what they say! You don’t actually have to veer away from your comfort zone of muted hues and a repertoire with patterns that only extends to dad stripes.

A plain, oversized shirt works as a stand-in for a printed number; smocked cotton dresses could very well be a minimal alternative to the frills and fancy of the stereotypical floral dresses; and a flowy, linen trouser the posterchild of resort wear very much falls within the arsenal of minimal dressing.
