On February 4, 2021, a New Mexico State Police Officer named Darian Jarrott was killed during a traffic stop – and yesterday video of his death was leaked online on Youtube.
In the video, which is disturbing, Officer Jarrott pulls over a White pickup truck driven by Omar Felix Cueva, 39. Officer Jarrott notices Omar had a gun and asked him to exit the vehicle. Omar got out, carrying an AR-15-style rifle and fired at least one shot at Officer Jarrott as he was walking to the rear of the vehicle.
Officer Jarrott ducked and fell onto his back as Cueva ran around the back of the pickup toward Officer Jarrott – and fired several more rounds at Officer Jarrott at point blank range, including one shot to the back of his head.

Omar hopped into his truck and tried to escape, but police eventually chased him down and forced him to stop – using a Pursuit Intervention Technique (PIT) maneuver.
Omar got out of the truck and shot multiple rounds towards the officers and deputies. LCPD Officer Adrian De La Garza and DASO Deputies Diego Herrera and Obed Marte returned fire towards Omar, who was struck several times by gunfire. Officer De La Garza was struck by gunfire and was airlifted to a trauma hospital in Texas where he was treated and released for non-life-threatening injuries.
Omar wasn’t so lucky – he was pronounced dead at the scene.
But what’s more disturbing than the video, are the comments – many of which are extremely disrespectful of the fallen officer. Many are trolling the cop, saying that he wouldn’t have been so “cordial” with a Black person during a traffic stop.
