British talk show host Piers Morgan has been fired from his morning talk show, Good Morning Britain after the network received more than 41,000 complaints about his comments about Meghan Markle.
“Following discussions with ITV, Piers Morgan has decided now is the time to leave Good Morning Britain,” ITV said in a short statement. “ITV has accepted this decision and has nothing further to add.”
On the show, Piers accused Meghan of lying about being suicidal and of claims that a member of the royal family was concerned her son’s skin would be too dark.
Piers confirmed the firing via a tweet:
“I’ve had time to reflect on this opinion, and I still don’t [believe her],” he tweeted. “If you did, OK. Freedom of speech is a hill I’m happy to die on. Thanks for all the love, and hate. I’m off to spend more time with my opinions.”
Most of Twitter was happy about Piers being booted from the show.
