It’s traditional for award winners to pay homage to their fellow nominees — but Rosamund Pike had a special kind of respect for one in particular on Sunday night at the 78th Golden Globes.
Receiving the award for Best Actress in a Motion Picture, Comedy or Musical for her fantastic turn in “I Care A Lot”, the Brit admitted her performance was nothing compared to what Maria Bakalova had to go through.
Bakalova, of course, was nominated alongside her for her role as Borat’s daughter Tutar Sagdiyev in the “Borat Subsequent Moviefilm” sequel… which included the infamous Rudy Giuliani “tucking in his shirt” scene.

“Ladies — I salute you, wow,” Pike gushed after her name was pulled from the envelope by presenter Ben Stiller. “HFPA, thank you, thank you, thank you for recognizing, I suppose the dark side of comedy.”
On that point, she went on: “My fellow nominees, I am so honored to be in this room with you. I mean, in my movie I had to swim up from a sinking car… I think I would still rather do that than be in a room with Rudy Giuliani.”
“Maria, I salute your brilliance and your bravery,” she added.

In perhaps the most awkward moment in film history, the Borat sequel saw Bakalova, playing a 15-year-old reporter, end up in a hotel room with Giuliani as he lay on his back on a bed and reached into his pants.
The former NY mayor later insisted he was simply tucking his shirt in; his tucking at that point was interrupted when Sacha Baron Cohen burst in screaming “she’s too old for you.”
Also nominated along with both women in the category were Kate Hudson for “Music”, Michelle Pfeiffer for “French Exit”, and Anya Taylor-Joy for “Emma”.
