The history of eyeliner harks back to as early as the 4ooBC. In ancient Egypt, women would use kohl and other minerals to create their winged liner looks. Perhaps, the most famous of them all, Queen Cleopatra. After her, the powerful flick has gone on to become the signature of an entire lineup of cultural icons (or should we say, eyecons? ha ha). Brigitte Bardot, Marilyn Monroe, Amy Winehouse, Ariana Grande…it’s a host of some of the biggest names in entertainment.
As powerful and transformative as a cat eyeliner can be, it requires a certain level of mastery to get the look down pat. Not forgetting, the right tool on hand. Eyeliner mishaps are a nightmare to deal with – accentuated I-have-not-slept-for-the-past-three-days dark eye circles are not a good look. There’s really only one way to avoid a smudged eyeliner accident, finding a formula that works best for you. The run-of-the-mill stuff just won’t cut it, especially, not if the humidity of the tropics is stacked against your winged liner favour.
While most people begin their foray into winged tips with liquid eyeliner and stay in that arena, gel formulas deserve an equal shot. It might look like it but gel liners glide on smoothly onto the lid and they’ve got some serious staying power. Plus, gel liners are far more versatile than their liquid or pencil counterparts. You could smudge it out for a smokey eye effect or get really precise with your flick. And at the end of the day, all it really takes a few swipes of an oil-based cleanser to take it all off.
Now, who’s crossing over to Team Gel?
