Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are paying it forward in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. On Jan. 16, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, along with their Archewell Foundation, provided lunch for the volunteers at the Los Angeles nonprofit The Mission Continues. The food was provided by Homegirl Catering, a community social-justice organization that Harry and Meghan previously visited in June 2020.
“We’d like to send a huge thank you to The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, along with Archewell Foundation, for fueling the volunteers of our LA Service Platoon with lunch yesterday, so they can continue their hard work at the Compton VFW and help those living in the Compton community!” The Mission Continues wrote on Instagram. “We’re truly honored to have their support!”

Along with a series of photos of the volunteers enjoying their lunch, the organization also included a snap of Harry and Meghan’s thoughtful note. “In honor of this day of service, and in recognition of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and all that he stood for, we want to send our thanks and gratitude to the team at The Mission Continues,” Harry and Meghan wrote. “We’re so proud of all the work you’re doing to support your community and hope you enjoy this small token of our appreciation.”
Since officially stepping down as senior royals last March, Harry and Meghan have been committed to giving back to the community. In fact, back in November 2020, Harry volunteered at the LA branch of The Mission Continues by distributing food to locals. The nonprofit is staffed by military veterans, and given that Harry served in the British Army for 10 years, it’s easy to see why he and Meghan selected the organization.
