Hollywood A-lister George Clooney is back with his first movie in four years!
“Extra’s” Nate Burleson spoke with Clooney about his new movie “The Midnight Sky,” life at home during the pandemic, the moment he proposed to Amal, and the truth behind that story of gifting millions of dollars to his friends.
Proving he is just like us during lockdown wife his wife and twins, George said, “We’re all at home. Washing dishes. Mopping floors. And doing laundry. And looking forward to a vaccine sometime in the near future.”
George joked of his parenting skills, “I’ve got 3-year-olds — all I do is teach them to put Nutella in their nappy and go around and scare people.”
Clooney recently revealed that he was on his knee for 20 minutes while proposing to his wife Amal in 2014. When Nate asked if he was “contemplating life” during those 20 minutes, George answered, “I got down on my knee and I had this playlist of songs.” He went on, “So I propose to her, I’m holding the ring. And she’s just holding it, going, ‘Oh, my God… oh, my God.’ And I’m waiting and waiting. We know how long it is because I know the playlist and I know when she said yes and it was 20 minutes. But after some time of her in shock I just said, ‘I kind of need an answer ‘cause I’m gonna throw my hip out.’ It took a while. I think it was out of shock.”
George also recently shared that that he gave $1 million each to 14 of his friends after his film “Gravity” became a huge hit. He commented, “Most of my friends needed the money.”
He added, “I was 52, I think, and I was making out my will. And all of those guys were in the will… and then I was like… ‘What are we waiting for? Let’s get on with it.’ And so I got a van full of cash and stuffed it into bags and… it was a great night, I have to say. My buddy said… ‘Let’s do this next year!’”
In the new post-apocalyptic sci-fi thriller “The Midnight Sky,” Clooney is playing a scientist stationed in the Arctic who tries to warn a space crew about coming back to extreme danger. Along with acting, he also directed and produced the Netflix movie, which was shot in Iceland. He admitted, “It’s tough to direct yourself in a snowstorm.”
With temperatures 40 degrees below zero during the shoot, he shared, “It was cold and there was nothing you could do to get warm. I had ice in my beard and to keep it in my beard, I’d have to take a squirt bottle of water and ride around on my snowmobile and just keep blasting myself in my face until my face would freeze up again.”
“The Midnight Sky” streams on Netflix December 23.
