It wasn’t just the blood and gore that had us picking our jaw from the floor, the stellar lineup of wardrobe ensembles too had a part to play.

No matter what anyone has to say about Ryan Murphy’s television, we stand by his genius – even the seemingly worst of it. We’re no film connoisseurs to critic Murphy’s screenplay but the impeccable wardrobe of his productions has kept us glued to the screens anyway. We’ll confess – we’ve rewatched Scream Queens more times than we’d like to admit.

Ratched, the latest in his stellar lineup of television productions (Pose and Hollywood are our other favourites) joins the ranks as yet another feast for the eyes. If you haven’t gotten around to the series just yet, here’s a quick summary: the psychological thriller set in the 1940s tells the story of Nurse Ratched, the wicked character from Ken Kesey’s 1962 novel One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest.

We’ve gone through our fair share of mind-bending psychological thrillers but Ratched is a visual masterpiece unlike any other. In true Murphy fashion, there’s no lack of spectacular costumes. Perfectly painted red lips, cat-eye sunglasses, sprightly-hued tailored two-piece ensembles – it wasn’t just Ratched’s psychopathic tendencies that had us picking up our jaws from the floor, her outfits had an equal part to play.

While the stirring plot and murderous scenes kept us awake in the days after, Ratched’s outfits thankfully served as a much-needed distraction. We instead diverted our attention online to scour for similar vintage-esque pieces. How did we fare?
