Remember the crochet sweaters grandma made you for Christmas when you were a kid? The ones that you’d never be caught dead in because what does Grandma know about fashion? If you were one of those kids, get grandma on the phone.

Granny chic is officially a full-blown trend. To the unacquainted, sunglasses adorned with chains, pearl jewellery and crochet sweaters are the earmarks of what is also coined “grandmillennial” fashion. On the Spring/Summer 2020 runways, the crafty, handmade crochet midi dresses, matchy-matchy bra top and cardigan combinations took to the center-stage.

We know, we know, we’re moving into fall, aren’t we way past the last season’s and yesteryear’s clothing trend? We love the crochet trend as much as we love grandma but finding a bra top or dress that hugs you in all the right places can prove to be quite the challenge. Not forgetting, the funky tan lines crochet coverups can leave when worn under the blistering summer heat.

Sweater weather, on the other hand, is the time for crochet to shine. The warmth of a handmade crocheted cardigan or sweater hugging you as you snuggle up with a book on a rainy night and the comfort of one on one of those rainy days out have an effect you could associate with that of, say, grandma’s pie.
