According to new reports, “zero” NFL teams are interested in signing Colin Kaepernick for the upcoming season.
“Per a source with knowledge of the situation, there was some ‘fake’ interest expressed immediately after [George] Floyd’s death, seemingly out of guilt,” Pro Football Talk reports. “There has been zero interest expressed as to Kaepernick’ in months.'”
Kaepernick took a knee during the national anthem in 2016 as a protest against racial injustice. Since then, he appeared to have been “blackballed” from the league — and sued the league, winning an undisclosed amount of money.
“I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color,” Kaepernick told NFL Media after taking a knee. “To me, this is bigger than football and it would be selfish on my part to look the other way. There are bodies in the street and people getting paid leave and getting away with murder.”
Last November, he took part in a workout after refusing to take part in the NFL-planned workout. No teams expressed any interest in signing the quarterback and he remains unsigned to this day.
