Mariah Carey has claimed that during an appearance on The Ellen Show more than a decade ago, the talk show host made her feel “extremely uncomfortable” after host Ellen DeGeneres outed her pregnancy.
“I was extremely uncomfortable with that moment is all I can say. And I really have had a hard time grappling with the aftermath,” Mariah said.
During the interview, Ellen pressed Mariah to confirm or deny rumors that she and Nick Cannon were expecting. Mariah laughed, but Ellen continued to press the issue, even going as far as to offer the pregnant singer a glass of champagne to prove if she was pregnant.
“This is peer pressure,” Mariah said before faking a sip. Ellen then shouted, “You’re pregnant!”
Mariah told Vulture that she was not yet ready to make the news public.
“I wasn’t ready to tell anyone because I had had a miscarriage. I don’t want to throw anyone that’s already being thrown under any proverbial bus, but I didn’t enjoy that moment.”
