Halle Berry has asked a judge to allow her to represent herself in divorce proceedings against her ex-husband, Olivier Martinez.
Berry and Martinez filed for divorce in October 2015 after just two years of marriage.
The pair both noted the reason for the split as irreconcilable differences, and are asking for joint custody of their 6-year-old son, Maceo, according to legal documents.
It is with a heavy heart that we have come to the decision to divorce,” they said in a statement to PEOPLE at the time.
“We move forward with love and respect for one another and the shared focus of what is best for our son,” the statement said. “We wish each other nothing but happiness in life and we hope that you respect our and, most importantly, our children’s privacy as we go through this difficult period.”
Recently, Halle revealed that she is dating a new man, but so far, has kept his identity under wraps.
