Jason Mitchell is reportedly set to star in a biopic as Sean Bell, a Black man who was fatally shot by NYPD just hours before his wedding.
The biopic is titled 50 Shots, according to TMZ.
“I’d like to give thanks to God.. the Bell family and my f*cking guy @truvisionsfilms. This is about to be epic,” Mitchell wrote on Instagram.
Bell and a few friends were leaving a strip club in Queens after his bachelor party. Members of the NYPD fired 50 shots at the group and Bell was struck in the neck and arm, He was pronounced dead on arrival to the hospital.
His friends, Joseph Guzman, was left in critical condition after being hit 11 times, and another friend, Tent Benefield, arrived in stable condition.
Mitchell faced controversy last year after he was booted from Showtime’s The Chi, after being accused of sexual misconduct by a co-star. In April, he made headlines again after he was pulled over by the cops — and they allegedly found firearms and drugs in his SUV.
Mitchell faces multiple counts, including possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute and possession of a firearm by a felon.
