Alexandrovskaya in 2017 with partner Harley Windsor
Ekaterina Alexandrovskaya, a Russian-born figure skater who had competed in the Olympics for Australia, has died at 20. The International Skating Union confirmed her death Friday, providing few details.
“The ISU is shocked by the news of Ekaterina’s passing,” ISU President Jan Dijkema said in a statement. “She was a talented pair skater and the Figure Skating community will miss her. We offer our deepest sympathies to her family, friends and teammates and mourn this tragic loss.”
Her figure-skating partner Harley Windsor wrote on Instagram, “Words can not describe how I feel right now, I am devastated and sick to my core about the sad and sudden passing of Katia. The amount we had achieved during our partnership is something I can never forget and will always hold close to my heart. This news is something you can never prepare for. Rest In Peace Katia.”
Born in Russia, Alexandrovskaya became an Australian citizen in 2016. In 2018, she and Windsor competed at PyeongChang, placing 18th a year after winning the world junior title.
In February 2018, Alexandrovskaya and Windsor dissolved their partnership and Alexandrovskaya retired from skating, citing injuries.
