Naya Rivera’s ex-husband Ryan Dorsey is living a “nightmare” after her death.
A source told People magazine, “Ryan has barely slept. It’s just a nightmare. Although he wasn’t with Naya, it’s Josey’s mom. Josey needs his mom.”
On Monday, the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department announced that a body was found in Lake Piru, where the “Glee” star had been declared missing. That day, Ryan was spotted at the lake with her dad George to identify the body.

Hours later, Ventura County Sheriff William Ayub told the press that he was “confident the body we found is that of Naya Rivera,” based on the “location of where the body was found, physical characteristics of the body, clothing found on the body and the physical condition of the body, as well as the absence of any other persons reported missing in the area.”
Authorities were able to piece together what may happened with Josey’s help. Ayub said, “We believe it was mid-afternoon when she went swimming, the idea being, perhaps, that the boat began drifting… and that she mustered enough energy to get her son back on the boat but not enough to save herself. [Her son Josey] described being helped into the boat by Naya, who boosted him onto the deck from behind. He looked back and saw her disappear under the surface of the water.”
According to Ayub, Rivera’s body was found near where she had been swimming with her son. He said, “We believe she was concealed within the shrubbery of some of the floorbed of the lake.”
Days before the body was recovered, Dorsey was seen looking distraught at Lake Piru, where he met up with Naya’s family. At one point, he was seen running into the water with the rest of her family.
Last week, Dorsey was seen at Naya’s sister Nickayla’s home in Valencia. It appeared they ordered Uber Eats before Ryan left with Josey in his arms. The actor covered up in a hat and sunglasses, while Josey clung to him, wearing shorts and a T-shirt.
Friends told DailyMail.com that Dorsey had “no idea” she planned to take him to Lake Piru. His housemate, who asked to remain anonymous, added, “Ryan headed up there as soon as their son was found to look after him. He was gone by the time I got home Wednesday.”
He continued, “Naya has been in L.A. working, but I don’t know where she has been living. None of us know any more than what is being reported at this time.”
The source continued, “Naya hadn’t been in contact with him. She didn’t tell him what she was doing. He had no idea… It’s a horrible circumstance and we’re hoping for the best.”
Ryan and Naya finalized their divorce in 2018 after four years of marriage, and had joint custody of Josey.
