Face Mask Chain Trend: How To Style Summer’s Safest Accessory

Is the mask chain the number one most-sought-after accessory of the summer? If not yet, it’s certainly about to be. As stay-at-home orders lift and more and more restaurants and shops allow people to visit, masks are still required, and one fashionista has found a way to make wearing them a little more convenient and a lot more stylish. Ladies and gentlemen, the face mask chain trend is one to watch.

What is a mask chain, you ask? Think of it as a sunglasses chain, but for your cloth face mask. You put it on like a necklace and wear your mask as you normally would, and when you need to remove your mask, it hangs suspended (as sunglasses would on a sunglasses strap) so you don’t have to worry about holding it in your hand or resting it on a potentially unclean surface. Genius, no?

Beauty and lifestyle expert and entrepreneur Lara Eurdolian created the trend by pointing out that the multi-use handbag chain strap she sells in her online shop, Pretty Connected, could also be paired with cloth face masks. Prior to the pandemic, these chains were often used by the fashion set to carry everything from cameras to handbags, but they’ve been given new life as the must-have mask chain of the season, and many other brands have followed Eurdolian’s lead and launched similar accessories.

I have a lot to say. I’ll start with thank you. . Thank you to everyone that posted a black square. I didn’t see a single post on my feed yesterday that was not in some type of solidarity for the black community. . While, I can’t believe it’s 2020 and we’re still having this conversation. I’m glad you’re in it. . While some of you might have received criticism for posting late, for just doing a square when so much more is needed, I don’t discount your pledge. Yes, it might have come after the white friend to your left and right posted so you felt comfortable but you did it. It might have been out or pressure that staying silent made you came off as intolerant, but you did it. You got involved. And for the first time in all the countless outrage I’ve posted, I didn’t feel like a minority or in a low percentage of my feed pledging my support. Which incidentally when I post about trying to help the homeless population, the Women’s March and about the planet I often feel very alone. While I appreciate DMs like “you’re such a great person for caring”, it deeply saddens me that it’s not the norm. I was brought up that when you see an injustice you do something (as far as activism I don’t hold a candle to my mom). I actually don’t think I do nearly enough, but I try. So thank you to everyone trying. . I recognize that we’re all in different places with our journey. We were all brought up differently. And we all have to start somewhere. For me, having conversations around diversity with every company I consult for is a priority. Helping my black friends succeed in their business is important to me. . Today I’m pledging to be patient and kind. We’re all highly emotional, and stir crazy, but we need foster this community of humans willing to try. And when we say things incorrectly or show signs of ignorance we need to help each other understand the right words to use and explain when we might otherwise want to attack, shame or get frustrated. Progress will not come without kindness, patience and education. And the 🌎 is finally listening. Let’s make it count!
