Paramount Network has announced that they have canceled television show, Cops — a show that has been on the air for twenty years.
“Cops is not on the Paramount Network and we don’t have any current or future plans for it to return,” a network spokesperson said per The Hollywood Reporter.
Cops was nominated for the Outstanding Informational Series Emmy four times: in 1989, 1990, 1993, and 1994.
According to the outlet, A&E also pulled last week’s episodes of Live PD — which also follows officers on patrol. A source told THR that new episodes Friday and Saturday are “unlikely,” although A&E is still evaluating things.
“This is the right move and I want to give Paramount credit for being one of the first,” said Rashad Robinson, executive director of Color of Change. “We want to see more.”
He added per the NY Times, “These cop reality shows that glorify police but will never show the deep level of police violence are not reality, they are P.R. arms for law enforcement. Law enforcement doesn’t need P.R. They need accountability in this country.”
