Long-Wearing Lip Stains that Won’t Budge Even Underneath a Face Mask

As face masks are set to become a part of the new normal, there are some makeup-related things to think about – starting with lipsticks.

Face masks have become the pièce de résistance of our wardrobes. It’s now a part of the everyday get-up. If you’ve been dutifully wearing your mask everytime you head out, there are a few things that might have crossed your mind by now. How do I prevent the makeup on the lower half of my face from melting away underneath the face mask? Will my lipstick end up looking like I had full on made out with someone on the train by the time I get to the office? We’d be the first to acknowledge that these are all very first world problems but first world problems, too, need solutions.

The internet has proposed that you paint an entirely new nose and mouth above the line of the face mask. The “Tiny Face Makeup Challenge” is great for the giggles but not so much as an actual solution for our impending makeup woes. Lipsticks are tricky enough to keep on on a regular day, now with the challenge of a face mask thrown our way, there’s more to think about. Not only is smeared lipstick is a tough mess to clean up, you’re also royally screwed if you do not have your makeup stash on hand to touch up stains on your lip’s periphery. We’d suggest nude lippies for easier damage control. Although honestly, we’d rather be safe than sorry.

No matter how much it pains you, the practical thing to do is swap out your bullet lipsticks for something with a whole lot more staying power. There’s a whole world of lip stains that await you. Come hell or high water, lip stains do not budge. Once it’s on your lip, there’s no getting it off until you meticulously remove it with a makeup remover. Quick-drying, lip stains are also incredibly unfussy to swipe on in the mornings. And lest we forget, these formulas have super pigmented colour payoffs.

The only drawback we’d caution against is the potentially drying effect you could experience with lip stains. If you have dry, chapped lips, it’s high time you got on that lip care routine anyway! Alternatively, you can reach for formulas that are alcohol-free (it is the culprit that dries out your lips) – like this one from Clarins. Either way, don’t sleep on lip stains y’all!
