Pop singer Lana Del Rey felt the wrath of Twitter after she posted a lengthy rant calling out double standards in the industry — before proceeding to list several high profile, Black female artists.
“Now that Doja Cat, Ariana, Camila, Cardi B, Kehlani and Nicki Minaj and Beyonce have had number ones with songs about being sexy, wearing no clothes, f*ckiing, cheating, etc – can I please go back to singing about being embodied, feeling beautiful by being in love even if the relationship is not perfect, or dancing for money – or whatever I want – without being crucified or saying that I’m glamorizing abuse?”
Twitter felt as though the post directly called out women of color and was not only racist, but hypocritical.
Many white female artists have hit number one with sexy songs, flaunting their sexualit — but the past couple of years have been fruitful for women of color, and Lana hates it.
