Yesterday Mariah Carey performed “live” at a virtual concert on CNBC to raise money for New York health care workers.
And . . . it didn’t go well.
Many of Mimi’s fans said the singer was lip synching, and doing a horrible job at it.

Sadly this is not the first time that Mimi has been accused of lip synching or botching what was supposed to be a live performance. In 2018, she was called out for lip synching during her highly anticipated performance at the American Music Awards. She was also accused of doing the same at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in 2015 and during her American Idol performance in 2013.
Despite her recent setbacks, however, Mariah is a legendary singer, songwriter, record producer, actress, entrepreneur, and philanthropist. Renowned for her five-octave vocal range, melismatic singing style, and signature use of the whistle register, Carey is referred to as the “Songbird Supreme” by Guinness World Records.
She rose to fame in 1990 after signing to Columbia Records and releasing her eponymous debut album, which topped the U.S. Billboard 200 for eleven consecutive weeks.
Mariah is the only artist ever to have their first five singles reach number one on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart, from “Vision of Love” to “Emotions”.
Throughout her career, Mariah has sold more than 200 million records worldwide, making her one of the best-selling music artists of all time. With a total of 19 songs topping the Billboard Hot 100, Carey holds the record for the most number-one singles by a solo artist, a female songwriter, and a female producer.
