A 21 year old African American police officer from Louisiana was arrested and charged with 3rd degree rape, after authorities say that he had sexual relations with a woman in exchange for letting her off on a traffic infraction.
On April 26, 2020, a woman complained of sexual impropriety by a Port Barre police officer during a traffic stop.
The woman was reportedly traveling on US 190 on March 10, 2020, when she was stopped for speeding by Officer Darwin Fontenot. The woman had other violations in addition to speeding and claims during the stop that Officer Fontenot proposed a sexual favor in trade for leniency. The report stated the woman and Fontenot then engaged in sexual activity.
Authorities say that during an internal investigation, officer Fontenot admitted to engaging in sexual activity with the woman.
Darwin Fontenot, 21, was arrested and booked on charges of malfeasance in office and 3rd degree rape, which defines sexual activity between an authority figure with someone in their custody.
He has since bonded out and has been placed on administrative leave until termination, according to Police Chief Boudreaux.
