Sam Lloyd, who played lawyer Ted Buckland on the popular sitcom “Scrubs,” died Thursday, his rep confirmed to THR. He was 56.
Lloyd had been diagnosed with metastatic cancer and an inoperable brain tumor, as announced in a GoFundMe campaign that raised over $170,000 for his widow, Vanessa, and their infant son, Weston.
“Scrubs” star Zach Braff remembered his old colleague warmly on Twitter, writing, “Rest In Peace to one of the funniest actors I’ve ever had the joy of working with. Sam Lloyd made me crack up and break character every single time we did a scene together. He could not have been a kinder man. I will forever cherish the time I had with you, Sammy.”
Born on November 12, 1963, in Weston, Vermont, Lloyd made his TV debut on an episode of “Night Court” in 1988. He made many episodic-TV appearances, including on two episodes of “Seinfeld” (1993 & 1994), “Coach” (1996), two episodes of “The West Wing” (1999 & 2002), and two episodes of “Modern Family” (2014 & 2019). He reprised his role of Ted Buckland on three episodes of “Cougar Town” (2011-2012).
Lloyd also acted in movies, including “Rising Sun” (1993), “Flubber” (1997), and “Galaxy Quest” (1999).
