Kenneth “Zoo” Petty, the husband of Nicki Minaj, wants his upcoming trial to continue despite the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
According to BOSSIP, lawyers from the U.S. Attorney’s Office filed papers April 27 asking the judge to delay Petty’s criminal trial, which was supposed to start April 28.
They are not sure how they would be able to ensure that jurors adhered to social distancing laws. Typically, jurors spend their time in close proximity and, at times, locked in a room together.
The outlet reports that the delay would be for six weeks, but that Petty wants to move things along and is not in favor of putting things on hold.
Petty will be on trial facing a felony charge of failure to register as a sex offender. He allegedly lived in Los Angeles for six months without registering his status, which is a requirement under the terms of his attempted rape conviction from the 1990s.
He has pleaded not guilty to the charges.
