UFC fans will be saddened to hear that the upcoming OFC 249 has been postponed due to the coronavirus outbreak.
“Today, we got a call from the highest level you can go at Disney, and the highest level at ESPN … and the powers that be there asked me to stand down and not do this event on Saturday,” UFC President Dana White told ESPN.
The announcement comes just days after White announced that White would be holding UFC events at the Tachi Palace Casino Resort.
White says as soon as he’s given the green light, he will begin hosting fights again. “I can go next week,” White said. “So whenever my partner gives me the thumbs-up that they’re ready to go, I’m ready to go.”
ESPN added that it “has been in constant contact with the UFC regarding UFC 249. Nobody wants to see sports return more than we do, but we didn’t feel this was the right time for a variety of reasons. ESPN expressed its concerns to the UFC and they understood.”
