French Doctor Apologizes For Saying Coronavirus Testing Should Start In Africa

A French doctor faced backlash last week after he suggested that treatments for the coronavirus should begin in Africa — he has since apologized.

“If I could be provocative, should we not do this study in Africa where there are no masks, treatment or intensive care,” Dr. Jean-Paul Mira said in a televised interview per New York Daily News. “We try things because we know that they are highly exposed and they don’t protect themselves.”

Mira added, “A bit like as it is done elsewhere for some studies on Aids. In prostitutes, we try things because we know that they are highly exposed and that they do not protect themselves.”

Mira immediately felt the wrath of Twitter.

“I want to present all my apologies to those who were hurt, shocked and felt insulted by the remarks that I clumsily expressed on LCI this week,” the doctor said in a statement.

But social media thinks very little of his apology.
