Jussie Smollett hopped on Instagram, where he cracked a joke about being on “quarantine day 421” — a quip about fans shunning him over his alleged hate crime hoax.
“Hope y’all are staying safe,” he wrote. “Spread love and kindness… not Rona,” before singer Stevie Wonder’s “A Place in the Sun” while playing the keyboard.
Last month, Smollett pleaded not guilty to renewed charges alleging that he staged a homophobic attack against himself last January in Chicago.
Smollett previously pleaded not guilty to 16 counts of the charge last year, just weeks before the Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx’s office abruptly announced it was dismissing the case. A special prosecutor was then called in after Chicago officials question Foxx’s involvement in the case after she recused herself. Evidence emerged showing that Foxx may have had some influence in the outcome of the investigation when she was not supposed to.
