Our List of Tried-and-Tested Concealers

Beauty Wars: From Cult-Favourites to Newly Releases, Our List of Tried-and-Tested Concealers

There’s an entire checklist to tick off when finding the perfect concealer. Here’s our definitive list of the ones that make the cut.

|

Unless you have emerged a winner from the genetic lottery with flawless skin, concealers make for an all-important part of your makeup stash. The dark eye rings from binge-watching Netflix all-night, the angry pimple that shows itself during that time of the month, the uneven skin tone you’ve just always had…it all demands the need for a trusty concealer. Whether you are going all out glam or au natural with your makeup look, the concealer is basically the MVP of makeup.

We believe even Alicia Keys, the advocate for bare-faced beauty, has relented to touches of concealer. As much as life seemingly can’t go on without it, landing on the concealer perfect for your skin can be quite the arduous makeup journey. You need one that will not crease nor melt off, offer just the amount of coverage you’re looking for and blend right in with your skin or foundation. Finding your ideal concealer is a process of trial and error, there’s no running from that. To ease the process, we have five of the best concealers – tried and tested – from the well-loved to new on the shelf for you to consider!

Hourglass Vanish Airbrush Concealer

Amongst the newer releases in the market, the Hourglass Vanish Airbrush concealer easily takes a spot on our list of favourite concealers. True to name, the light-weight liquid formula glides on effortlessly under the eye and blends in, or rather, vanishes entirely into your skin and along with it disappears your dark eye circles. A high coverage concealer, you won’t need much more than one swipe to do the job. Give it’s matte finish, we’d say setting powder is entirely optional!

Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’r Instant Retouch Concealer

Say Fenty Beauty anything and you’d have our attention. Call it stellar marketing or the power of bad gal Riri but we out here are fans of the brand. And the Pro Filt’r Instant Retouch concealer did not disappoint. It’s a lightweight formula that offers great coverage and wears well throughout the day. We would, however, suggest that you moisturise the under-eye area or whichever part of your face you’re slapping the concealer on prior. It could get just a tad bit dry but it’s perfect for the sunny-all-year-round and humid tropics. But hey, you don’t have an excuse for crusty, flaky skin anyway. We’re adding this onto our list of all things Fenty Beauty that we already love.

It Cosmetics Bye Bye Undereye Full Coverage Anti-Aging Waterproof Concealer

The It Cosmetics Bye Bye Undereye concealer has been a long-time favourite here at team Kulala. From just the name alone, this concealer claims to do a whole lot. Full coverage. Anti-aging. Waterproof. And we’d vouch for it all – well, maybe except the anti-aging part. Check back in with us in five years. This is also Yoyo’s go-to everyday concealer. We have no complains – 10 out of 10.

NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer

This one needs no introduction. It’s a cult favourite and with good reason. The NARS Radiant Creamy concealer has stellar reviews from beauty junkies everywhere in the world and we echo the same sentiment. Medium to high buildable coverage that blends flawlessly into the skin or layer of foundation and long-lasting throughout the day, we could rave endlessly really! An added plus is that it also comes in a variety of not just shades but tones – a diverse range is something we can all appreciate, right ladies?

Clé de Peau Stick Concealer

The Clé de Peau stick concealer is definitely one that’s on the pricier end. We love it for its full coverage which is great for when you’re attending an event and looking take it up a notch in the glam department. The cream formula is of course thicker than the other concealers on the list which means you’d want to go easy on the application. But it does blend beautifully into the skin. Another pro-tip with this concealer, when picking your shade, swatch it and give it awhile to settle into your skin as the formula does oxidise before settling on the one for your skin tone. Oh, an added plus – it boasts SPF protection.
