West Coast rapper The Game is the latest celebrity to call out major record labels — accusing them of signing young rappers to “slave deals” so they can make as much money off them as possible.
He expressed his thoughts via a series of tweets:
“The internet forces you to listen to wack ass music,” The Game wrote in his first tweet. “It’s so much of it, you’re brainwashed to thinkin the sh*t actually sound like sumn.”
It is assumed that The Game is addressing the fledgling rappers in the rap game.
He continued, “This rap sh*t will KILL YOU. Literally. The labels sign young artists to slave deals & their only concern is how they can use you to make more money. They don’t even advertise or market you no more, they let u do it yourself on IG while they sit back, steal & wait 4 the next you. Stay INDEPENDENT. OWN your masters. Do the work yourself & the payoff will be worth it. Almost 20 years in music & not once did anyone tell me this. Shit, I’m still waiting on them to tell YOU.”
His comments mirror those of Meek Mill’s, who just a few weeks ago, slammed the labels for signing young artists to slave deals.
“What about major companies taking kids from the ghetto and got them signing they lives away for a lil bit of money?We taking control of that 2020 and exposing the people offering these slave deals! Ima get some lawyers to break down some of these deals y’all offering these kids,” Meek tweeted at the time.
