Roc Nation boss, Jay-Z, revealed that the NFL asked him to perform for the halftime show, but he turned him down because they wanted him to rope in Rihanna and Kanye West for the performance.
During a sitdown with The New York Times, he says that he was asked to perform “Run This Time” with Riri and Ye, but Jay told them that they could have him alone or nothing at all.
“Of course I would have,” Jay-Z said, “but I said, ‘No, you get me.’ That is not how you go about it, telling someone that they’re going to do the halftime show contingent on who they bring. I said forget it. It was a principle thing.”
And as for the Colin Kapernick backlash?
“No one is saying he hasn’t been done wrong,” Jay-Z said. “He was done wrong. I would understand if it was three months ago. But it was three years ago, and someone needs to say, ‘What do we do now — because people are still dying?'”
