Michael Rainey Jr., the actor who plays Power’s Tariq St. Patrick, has revealed that he has received over 300 threats against his life via his social media DMs.
And now Power creator Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson is stepping in, and offering Michael some extra security.
“Me going through my dms tryna figure out why I have 326 death threat messages 🤨🤨,” the actor captioned photos of him looking baffled.
Tariq is one of the most hated characters on the show, but it seems that some people do not know the difference between actors and the characters they play on television and are upset over the prospect that Tariq may have gunned down Ghost.
As the current season of Power is unfolding it’s beginning to look more and more like Tariq is the one who killed the beloved character, Ghost.
“It’s definitely some animosity. Ghost wasn’t the best father to him, to his whole family, actually. He left them. I feel like that had a really big effect on the family as a whole,” Rainey told Newsweek back in 2018 about his transition to the dark side.
“I see all the memes, everything, all the videos people make,” he said. “It’s cool to see how in tune people are with the TV show and my character. I don’t take what people say seriously. I laugh at it all.”
MTO News spoke with a person close to 50 Cent, and they told us that the entertainment mogul has provided Michael with security. We asked the insider how long they expected the security detail to remain. We were told “indefinitely.”
