Kendrick Lamar is set to release his new album in the next month, and we finally are getting details on what his latest work will look like.
Former Billboard editorial director and current columnist Bill Werde, just spilled some tea on Kendricks new album. According to Bill, K. Dot’s upcoming LP is in the finishing stages and it is expected to be more “rock” influenced.
“Did anyone not named Beyonce release better, more meaningful back-to-back albums last decade than Kendrick Lamar?” Werde said on Twitter. “Are you interested to know that I hear from several friends that recording on the new album may finally be done? And that he’s pulling in more rock sounds this time?”
He added, “Also, just to be clear, just because recording had hit a point where folks believe it may be finished — albums go back to the studio all the time after this point, and for a million different reasons.”
In other words, don’t get too excited about a new Kendrick album dropping soon just yet.
Lamar is scheduled to headline this year’s WOO HAH! music festival alongside A$AP Ferg, Aitch, Ares, Ashafar, Cho, DaBaby, EarthGang, Gotu Jim, Ho9909, Lil Keed, Lil Tecca, Mensa, Rimon, Santi, Ski Mask The Slump God, Tiffany Calver, and Zwangere Guy.
Kendrick’s last album Damn. came out in 2017. On April 11, Lamar announced the album title, which confirmed guest appearances by Rihanna, Zacari, and U2. The album was released on April 14, 2017 to rave reviews, with a Rolling Stone writer describing it as a combination of “the old school and the next-level.” It marked his third number one album on the Billboard 200 chart, and the single “Humble” became his first number one as a lead artist on the Billboard Hot 100. On May 4, 2017, Damn was certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). Lamar later released the DAMN. Collectors Edition in mid-December 2017, with the tracklist from the original album in reverse order
