The CMPD said that it had launched an Internal Affairs investigation into the recent arrest of rapper DaBaby to determine if officers followed department policies and directives during the incident.
DaBaby was cited for misdemeanor marijuana possession and resisting, obstructing, and delaying arrest after performing at Charlotte’s Bojangles’ Coliseum, but he says that he was illegally searched by officers after they claimed to smell marijuana on him.
He was then taken to the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office, where he was issued two citations for misdemeanor possession of marijuana and resist, obstruct and delay.
According to the “Suge” rapper, he is harassed by the cops every time he revisits his hometown of Charlotte, North Carolina.
DaBaby vowed to get justice.
“So what we got is high-quality audio and video of me doing everything but resisting arrest before they just brought me down here, and we will be airing it out,” he told reporters when he was released from jail. He stated that he would release the video of the incident on his Instagram to show what happened.
“Ya’ll will see how dirty the CMPD police department did me during the holidays in front of my daughter while I was putting a show on for my city,” he said.
