Popular rap star YNW Melly will be released from jail soon, MTO News has learned.
And it’s the rapper’s mother, Jamie Demons-King, who broke the news of her son’s impending release from prison.
The rapper’s Spotify streaming analytics were released recently, and he had 1 billion streams, which is quite a feat considering he is behind bars.
The rapper released his debut studio album Melly Vs. Melvin late last month, which has been universally praised by music critics.
Melly and co-accused, YNW Bortlen are being held on double homicide charges and could face the death penalty if convicted for the murders of friends, YNW Juvy, and YNW Sakchaser.
The 20-year-old has remained hopeful since being taken into custody on February 13, 2019. On the day of his arrest, he posted, “Unfortunately, a lot of rumors and lies are being said but no worries god is with me.”
His fans have been repping #freemelly hashtags since that day, with support growing every day.
Melly claims that the two men were killed by a drive by shooter, not him. But police claim that the position of the bullet holes in the back of the seat does not correspond with a drive-by shooting.
But now there’s new evidence in the case. Melly’s team captioned an Instagram post yesterday, “Turned himself in February 13th.. Melvin still out here #2020 we coming home n turning up more #Innocen.”
His mom followed up the post by writing, “The wait is almost over.”
