Brad Pitt Disappointed in Troy, Smoked Pot in 90s

Brad Pitt has had one heck of a Hollywood career, as a leading man in some of the great films of the past three decades.

But the “Thelma & Louise” heartthrob recently revealed he wasn’t a fan of all his work — nor was he comfortable with the accompanying fame.

During an interview with The New York Times, the 55-year-old dished on why he felt “disappointed” in “Troy” and how he would hide out in the 90’s smoking pot to avoid attention.

“I had to do ‘Troy’ because — I guess I can say all this now — I pulled out of another movie and then had to do something for the studio,’ the Oscar nominee began.

“So I was put in ‘Troy.’ It wasn’t painful, but I realized that the way that movie was being told was not how I wanted it to be. I made my own mistakes in it,” he said. “I was disappointed in it.”

Pitt was careful not to center blame on director Wolfgang Petersen; but he said working on the film drove him crazy, because “I could not get out of the middle of the frame.”

“Somewhere in it, ‘Troy’ became a commercial kind of thing. Every shot was like, Here’s the hero! There was no mystery.”

However every cloud has a silver lining, as the Oklahoma native started seeking work that would create a new arc in his career.

“So about that time I made a decision that I was only going to invest in quality stories, for lack of a better term. It was a distinct shift that led to the next decade of films,” Pitt explained.

The self-confidence Pitt needed to ask for better roles at the time, however, wasn’t always there in the beginning of his career.

“I didn’t feel that way inside. I spent most of the ’90s hiding out and smoking pot. I was too uncomfortable with all the attention,” Pitt confessed.

He eventually figured out how to rejoin the world and actually enjoy it.

“Then I got to a place where I was aware that I was imprisoning myself. Now I go out and live life, and generally people are pretty cool.”

Pitt was just nominated for the Golden Globes’ Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role for his turn as Cliff Booth in “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.”
