Meghan McCain Offended by Joy Behar MaGA Hat Comment on The View

A conversation about Nancy Pelosi’s fired up exchange with a reporter led to another tense moment between “The View” cohosts Meghan McCain and Joy Behar on Friday.

During their Hot Topics segment, the women all talked about the House Speaker hitting back hard at reporter James Rosen after he asked if she hates President Donald Trump. “I don’t hate anyone,” she said, before bringing up her religious beliefs and telling him, “Don’t mess with me when it comes to words like that.”

Guest cohost Ana Navarro loved the response, while Abby Hunstman and Sunny Hostin both criticized Rosen for how he worded the question.

While McCain agreed Pelosi answered “masterfully,” her issue came with what happened next. “I think the problem is when — she did answer it masterfully — the problem is now she’s now selling t-shirts that say #DontMessWithNancy.”

Hostin was shocked as McCain said that now, “For $39, you can buy a t-shirt.”

After Behar asked, “Do they come in black?” McCain continued her train of thought.

“My problem is everything is a meme, everything’s for the internet,” she said, before citing both #ShePersisted and #DontMessWithNancy. “This is very serious, we’re talking about the Constitution, we’re talking about impeachment and, to me, it reduces it, it’s very reductive to start selling sweatshirts that say #DontMesswithNancy.”

“So you mean like hats that say Make America Great Again,” Behar interjected. As the audience erupted in cheers and applause, McCain shook her head and threw her hands in the air.

“You know what, I’m just trying to make a point and I’ve never worn a MAGA hat, I think you know better than anybody I would never wear a MAGA hat,” McCain said in a huff. “And politics doesn’t have to be a meme and clicktivism, but whatever.”

She then kept her arms crossed for the next minute or so as the conversation continued.

After the episode aired, McCain randomly got into it on Twitter with “Sex and the City” star Willie Garson, who called her “transparent as hell.”

“And you’re just a bitter man on Twitter,” she responded. “The amount of time you spend hate tweeting me is really sad.”
