NBC and the producers of America’s Got Talent have responded to the backlash regarding Gabrielle Union’s unceremonious firing, claiming that they are “working with” her in a joint statement.
“We remain committed to ensuring a respectful workplace for all employees and take very seriously any questions about workplace culture,” the joint statement said. “We are working with Ms. Union through her representatives to hear more about her concerns, following which we will take whatever next steps may be appropriate.”
According to Variety, the Being Mary Jane star fired from the show after submitting complaints about the series reportedly fostering a toxic workplace.
The Hollywood actress was reportedly told that her hairstyles were “too black” for the show’s audience, but she was let go after she complained to NBC’s human resources department that guest star Jay Leno made jokes that she found insensitive toward Asian communities.
Several other actresses have spoken out in defense of Gabrielle since the news broke. It was also reported that she had planned to sue.
