K-pop Stars Jung Joon-young, Choi Jong-hoon Sentenced For Rape

A South Korean court has sentenced K-pop stars Jung Joon-young and Choi Jong-hoon to prison for gang-raping drunk unconscious women.

The Seoul Central District Court found both singers guilty of the sexual crimes with former boy band member Choi Jong-hoon receiving a five-year term and Jung Joon-young, a six-year prison term, according to BBC Friday.

Both men were convicted of “special quasi-raping,” defined as multiple people collaborating to have illicit sexual intercourse with a person who was unconscious or unable to resist, the LA Times reported.

They were also ordered to complete 80 hours of sex offender treatment programs and are forbidden from working with children.

Jung, 30, was also convicted of filming sex videos of women against their will and distributing the footage in a group chat.

According to Judge Kang Seong-soo, Jung had raped women who were “drunk and unable to resist, filmed them nude and having sex, then spread it on a group chat.”

“We can’t imagine the pain the victims might have felt who found out later,” he added.

Jung, who got his break on a TV talent show, said in his final testimony: “I deeply regret my foolishness and I feel great remorse.”

“From now on, I shall only… live in remorse,” he added.

In contrast, the court said that Choi, a former member of the band F.T. Island, “did not feel remorse after mass-raping drunken victims.”

The case against both Jung and Choi emerged back in March during an investigation into fellow K-pop star Seungri, who sensationally retired from the music industry after being charged with supplying prostitutes in one of his clubs.

According to the Times, Jung and Choi have one week to appeal.
