A Black hotel receptionist is suing after a white woman was caught on camera screaming the n-word at her because she asked for identification before handing over a room key.
According to the New York Post, Michelle Rajacic entered the City Club Hotel after midnight on April 6, 2018, demanding a room key. When Linda Shell asked her for some ID – she launched into a shocking racial rant, according to the Manhattan Supreme Court lawsuit filed by Shell.
Shell recorded the racist rant in which the woman called her a “n*gger,” “dirty f*cking raunchy skank,” “dirty f*cking hood rat,” “f*cking ghetto ass” to name just a few.
Shell also claims that Rajacic allegedly spat on and assaulted her.
Shell was allegedly “struck in the face with a cellphone” by Rajacic during the altercation, police said. Rajacic was subsequently arrested and taken to jail.
“Defendant spit on Plaintiff and then assaulted, battered, and attacked the Plaintiff, and used physical force without cause or justification and without Plaintiff’s consent,” the lawsuit charges.
Shell also claims that after the woman was released from jail, the hotel gave her a room for free. Something City Club Hotel general manager Joshua Barbee denies.
“This is the first we are learning of this litigation,” he said. “The claims being made regarding the hotel are completely incorrect. With that said, since this is pending litigation, we will have no further comment.”
She is suing for unspecified damages.
“While Ms. Shell demonstrated noble restraint in the face of such bigotry, what she was forced to endure should not, and will not, be tolerated,” said Shell’s lawyer, John Tait. “We will fight to ensure that Ms. Rajacic is held to account for her actions.”
