Platform Sandals Are Back and Here’s Why You Need a Pair

Platform Sandals Are Back and Here’s Why You Need a Pair

We’re calling it – the “ugly” shoe trend is over. For a change, slip into shoes that have found the sweet spot between comfort and appeal.

In the past year, fashion has set foot (ha ha)  into some rather questionable trends in the shoe department. We have seen AND embraced footwear trends we never in a million years would have caught ourselves in. First came the “Dad sneakers” aka “ugly” sneakers reminiscent of the chunky velcro shoes my mother whisked my 10-year-old self to school in. Then, followed the high-heeled flip flops (yes, you read that right), which were touted as THE footwear for summer. If you ask us, neither of the two fare very well in the aesthetic department but their redeeming qualities lie in the area of comfort.

Speaking of which, lo and behold, the latest of footwear trends to descend upon us – the platform sandals. The major shoe moment from the 1990s last made its statement a few years ago at Marni and Stella McCartney before its quiet fade into the background. But just as nothing in fashion goes away forever, platform sandals have reclaimed their spot in the limelight. We’d think of platform sandals as a practical middle ground between the glamour of a stiletto and sole support of a sandal.

These are the shoes you turn to when you have a long night out in town but would still like to feel your toes at the end of it – all without losing the height advantage of painfully arched high heeled shoe. If you aren’t already sold, the fact that “ugly” won’t be an adjective you’d have to use to describe them might just seal the deal. Incase you needed further convincing, we have pulled together a line-up of platform sandals that will have you making a double-take.
