The seasonal time is upon us, and songstress Mariah Carey was honored by the Guinness World Records organization with three holiday-themed world records for her iconic single, “All I Want for Christmas Is You.”
Mariah now holds the record for the highest-charting holiday (Christmas/New Year) song on the Hot 100 by a solo artist, as well as most streamed track on Spotify in 24 hours and most weeks in the UK singles Top 10 chart for a Christmas song. All three records will be included in the Guinness World Records 2020 Edition book, per THR.
“I really started with thinking, ‘What are all the things I think about at Christmas?’ Lights, presents, stockings, fireplaces,” Mariah said of the song’s creation to USA Today earlier this month.
“I’ve always loved Christmas so much my entire life, but I grew up not having a lot of money and not being able to experience it like the other kids did. I wanted Christmas to be perfect, but for a lot of different reasons, it didn’t always end up working out well, coming from such a dysfunctional family. So I think when I wrote it, I just put every ounce of longing for that perfect moment in it.”
