Wendy Williams Disagrees with Taylor Swift Winning Artist of the Decade

Taylor Swift broke the record for most American Music Award wins on Sunday night, where she was also presented with the Artist of the Decade Award. But at least one person watching was confused by the big honor.

On Monday morning’s episode of her talk show, Wendy Williams didn’t quite seem to understand how Swift could 1) have more awards than a few music legends and 2) nab the Decade trophy.

“Taylor Swift made history, which is like unbelievable to me,” she began her rant. Stating that she does believe Taylor is talented and enjoys some of her music, she named “Shake It off” as one of her favorites.

“And so, good for her. She won 6 awards, now she has a total of 29 awards,” Williams continued. “That sounds unbelievable, but what sounds unforgivable, she’s got more awards than Michael Jackson!”

She went on to say Jackson picked up 24 trophies in his lifetime from the show, and was shocked Taylor even has more than Prince and Madonna, too.

“And Artist of the Decade?! Is she who’s been firing you up for the last 10 years?!” she then asked her studio audience, who seemed to agree with her.

“But you know what? I think that taste has cheapened through the years in a lot of things,” she continued. “The quality of clothes we buy, they get tattered and torn real quick. The quality of food we buy, we’re being poisoned by a lot of crap. Just life in general I think has cheapened and I don’t mean this in a bad way to Taylor, but it’s unbelievable … I appreciate her, but Artist of the Decade?”

Swift picked up the award last night after performing a medley of her biggest hits. Taking the stage, she first thanked Carole King — who presented her with the award — for inspiring her, before then giving love to her fans.

“All any of the artists in this room want is to create something that will last,” she said. “And all that matters to me is the memories that I have had with you, the fans, over the years, because we’ve had fun, incredible exhilarating times together. Thank you for being the reason I am on this stage.”
